Industry-academia workshop
Last month I co-organised an event between the Royal Geographical Society’s Food Geographies Research Group (FGRG) and the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST). The event was a one-day workshop hosted by Campden BRI, which was aimed at sparking dialogue between academic geographers and food industry professionals.
It was a really interesting day full of useful discussions, presentations and even a tour of the Campden BRI facilities. I learned a lot about what is sometimes called the ‘missing middle’ of the food system: that is, what happens between the farm and the fork, which has been relatively underexplored in social science so far despite its importance.
We at the FGRG hope to organise a follow-up event in future, to keep the discussions going and identify areas for possible collaboration. If you are interested in taking part, please do get in touch!
